Summary: Philipp Melanchthon's biography of Martin Luther was first printed in 1548 and reissued numerous times. Included are Melanchthon's obituary of Martin Luther as well as his funeral sermon. The work was edited by Johannes Pollicarius who added some Latin and Greek poetry on Luther's "Here I stand" statement.Signatures: A-F⁸ (F8 blank).Illustrative and Decorative Content: Medallion woodcut of Martin Luther on title page, initials. Ketelhodt requiriert zum allgemeines Besten von Ludwig Friedrich Fürsten zu Schwarzburg Rud[oldtadt] 1804." Carl Gerds von Ketelhodt was a lawyer and chancellor in Rudolstadt, Thuringia. He was an avid book collector, whose library was acquired by Prince Ludwig Friedrich II of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and combined with the historical library of Rudolstadt. The Schwarzburgs were an important family in Thuringia who corresponded with Philipp Melanchthon in the mid-16th century. They were also among the signatories of the Formula of Concord in 1580.
